            When setting up MS Journaling for email archiving use the following steps.

            Step-by-step guide

            Create the SMTP contact

            1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers.  Right-click the organizational unit in which you want to create the contact, point to Newand then...
            2. click Contact. Enter the following:
              1. First Name: Teknas
              2. Last Name: Archive
              3. Display Name: Archive
            3. Click OK.
            4. Open the Exchange Management Console on the Mailbox server. Expand Recipient Configuration, right-click Mail Contact, and then click New Mail Contact.
            5. Click Existing Contactbrowse to and select the Archive contact you just created, then click OK.
            6. Click Next.
            7. For the External Email Address field, click Editenter the archive email address. (xxxxxx.EXAMPLE@example.<domain>.com), then click OK.

              To find your archive email address, open the Portal webpage, Click on Archiving under Email Security, and then click Configuration for your email archiving config.

              Your archive email address is shown under the Archive Email Address field

            8. Click Nextthen click New.


            Configure the message format settings

            1. Open your Exchange Management Console.
            2. Expand Recipient Configurationthen select Mail Contact.
            3. In the result pane, select the SMTP contact.
            4. In the action pane, under the SMTP contact, click Properties
            5. On the General tab, from the Use MAPI rich text format listselect Never.

            Turn On Journaling

            1. Open the Exchange Management Console on the Mailbox server on which you want to enable journaling.
            2. Expand Server Configuration, then click Mailbox.
            3. In the result pane, select the server for the mailbox database for which you want to enable journaling.
            4. In the work pane, right-click the mailbox database, then click Properties.
            5. On the General tab, select Journal Recipient. For Journal Recipient, click Browse, select the Journal Recipient distribution list (group)
            6. Click OK.

              All journaled messages for users on this mailbox database are now sent to the Journal Recipient distribution list. Repeat this process for each mailbox database for which you want to enable journaling.



            Implement journal rules (select users only)


            Remove from the GAL

            1. Use the Set-Mailbox cmdlet to modify the settings for the journaling mailbox so that it is removed from the Global Address List. Issue the following command:

              Set-Mailbox AMaster -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $true

            2. Use the Set-Mailbox cmdlet to modify the settings for the journaling mailbox to prevent anyone from sending email messages directly to the that mailbox. Issue the following command:

               Set-Mailbox AMaster -AcceptMessagesOnlyFrom AMaster
